DispatchManager automates the process of placing and tracking container haulage work orders and directly connects users with their motor carrier communities via the web.

IAS Dispatch for Kuehne + Nagel

Kuehne and Nagel (K+N) is responsible for tens of thousands of multi-modal container moves each month across sea, rail, warehouse and last mile delivery to client locations. In the U.S. they work with over 450 motor carriers controlling first/last mile deliveries of containers. As such, the overall point-to- point control of containers from distribution center to truck to rail to ocean was shared with the truck carriers. K+N did not have visibility to first/last mile or its GPS data since it did not own the US carriers or fleets, yet coordinated status of matching, pickup and drop- off was still its responsibility. To solve this problem the company needed to gain visibility and connectivity to the U.S. motor carriers.

Today, IAS’ cloud-based DispatchManager application provides K+N with the needed connectivity, monitoring, tracking and visibility to container events across North America, replacing the previous methods of fax, phone and email. Event inputs are facilitated by the IAS InterAsset platform and hence handled by carriers and updated through EDI or direct web-based inputs. K+N enjoys many benefits from their adoption of DispatchManager, including process automation, facilitation of matching shipments and customer delivery locations, optimization of containers on the return event, elimination of empty mile container moves (lowering their carbon footprint) as well as performance management and analysis.

Today K+N is controlling and matching pickups on thousands of return moves each month. “In summary, the IAS platform has enabled us to connect to and leverage our community of carriers in the U.S. on a common platform, streamlining our processes and automating information flows across all parties. We are able to facilitate the dispatch, capture the delivery details, the POD, and the return of the container to the owner while providing backhaul opportunities and reduction of empty miles. The community of interconnected motor carriers and rail and ocean exchanges required for our point-to-point delivery responsibility and the monitoring and analytics such shared data provides has allowed us to deliver on our customer promise and our high level of service,” said Manfred Bekaan, Head of Global Intermodal.
